For years I lived up North, near Whithorse and we had no lectricity or stuff like that. Lots of 50-60 below weather. When we had to start a vehicle we shoved the end of a tiger torch in about 5 feet of stove pipe which went in under engine. Worked good as long as stove pipe was long enough. I did burn up a crew cab using a short pipe once....was the last time I ever used a short pipe. I am gonna heat up the N the same way if it gets cold enough here

What's a tiger torch? Is this the same as a salamander?

I don't know what a salamander is so it could be.
Tiger torch is a torch setup runs off a 20 lb or 100 lb propane bottle. Kinda like a flame thrower.
I have one around all the time for starting fires when burning brush.
