Got the old 8N rewired, new points and running like a top. Started right up after I got off work and went to plowing snow. Fun? Who likes to get out and plow snow with their N?

We got about 10". I've been plowing with my Fergy for over 20 years now. I still get such a kick out of it. I'm amazed anew every time I plow. How can 23 hp do that?!!!

Plowing snow is more fun than hogging, plowing my garden, or anything else I might do to pass the time on my old tractor. I was telling the guys on the Fergy board that I was seriously let down this week. The weather man was forecasting a big storm , 9 inches of snow, blowing, drifting, the works. I got all excited, hooked - up my scraper blade and pulled my tractor into the barn and waited... We only got an inch of snow and some ice, and it all melted by the time I got home from work the next day. What a let - down. I'm still waiting for the first good snow of the year.

Just finished plowing our 400' driveway. The old 2N started right up. I let it warm-up for awhile and it never missed once. We have an unusual 10" of snow and temp. in the teens. We have been lucky the last couple of years in MO and now winter has returned.

I am pouting now...

The 2N gave it her all. We plowed the office parking lot and residence driveway, with a leaky electrical system. Moved 15 inches away on Monday, now she won't start. Had to use the craftsman walkbehind snow thrower to move three inches this morning. Took 2 1/2 hours to do the job the 2N could do in 25 minutes.

And the part that really hurts....

My 3pt hitch used to leak to the down position overnight. Now, the blade is staying up nice and high. All that blade exercise must have helped.

We had 18 inches or so of snow on Monday. Plowed it with the N on tuesday... Encountered one caveat- the wheels would slip if I took too deep of a bite with the blade (don't have chains yet- now a Christmas gift from the wife). So I made more than one pass to plow the entire depth.

Received 8 more inches last night.

Have fun tractor-N...

Plowing is fun with the old 9N - it farmed in south Texas for 40 years before coming up here to Michigan, so snow is a new thing for it. Pulls the neighbors up the driveway, too! Converted it to 12V a couple of years back and it runs great.

Does anyone know where I might obtain some proper axle or wheel weights for the N? That's the only problem it sometimes has - it's a little light when pushing into a big mound of snow. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

There is nothing like settling in to the cold steel seat of a chugging N as it slowly but surely pushes around a heaping pile of the white stuff!

It is snowing now here in Maine. We should get about 5 inches. Just enough to justify plowing it!

Love to play in the snow with the N. I have to keep our field lane open during the winter so I can feed the "gal-darn its" (horses). The lane is over 1 mile long and every time it snows the lane drifts in. Can't even get a chained 4x4 down the lane. The tractor works great with chains on it. Only takes 6 Kool-aids to clean. It is great when it snows, only problem I have is when it snows no one shovels their snow, but they do grab their shovels and stand there in the driveway when I fire the old 8N up. So far I don't think the neighbors have shoveled in years, go ol'Nogrimace will clean it up. Sometimes it real late at night before I'm done, but at 3 A.M when I get up to go to the "other Work" I am a little tired, but looking forward to another snow!!!!

I would like to know more about your front blade. That looks ingenious. Your reply would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Mark

I think it counts. Seem as though it starts out to ba a fun thing and then by March it becomes a real chore. (Kind of like marrage; starts out like fun). Like those gauge wheels on your front blade. Thought of making something like it for the blower on the Deere. Skid shoes don't last too long when doing concrete drives.

the wheels were a direct result of my neighbour having 6" of 3/8" CLEAR gravel spread on his driveway. the rear blade has skid shoes but they dig in too much and in the spring he had a windrow of gravel along his driveway. this fall when i built my front blade i made sure that wouldn't happen.
