I have recently aquired a 1952 8N with both of these attachments and I cannot find anything much on them. I need a few parts and any info that is available. The sideplate on the fifth gear on the transmision says it was made in Essex, England.
Is this a Howard? This is the sdditional low gear for running the rototiller. It's where the Tranny dipstick is. Only it had a small shift lever coming out of it. Any help would be appreciated. Reagrds, Rich

Rich..... ....yes indeedy, sounds like you have the rare and fragle "Howard" aux tranny for rototiller useage. Unfortunately, I know of no souce of Howard repair parts. I did hear a rummor that some of the Ferguson Tractor dealers in England sometimes might have parts. Do a search on Ferguson.

Also, check www.n-news.com, they have a great archive of implement manuals..... ....Dell

Rich, You lucky dog, I've been looking for one of those for my tractor! It is a howard reduction gear and it reduces the ground speed low enough to till. I AM SO JEALOUS! Anyway congratulations on your find.
P.S. If you find one just laying around don't tell the others, it will be our little secret.LOL

Thanks to both of you for the tips. This is the second reference to the fragile nature of the Rotary Hoe. BTW Nowhere can I find the name Howard on it. Only Rotary Hoe, Essex, England and thats only in the transmission sideplate. I wrote the Smiths about it and they replied that they didn't know much about this attachment. They are fairly rare I gather. Now can anyone help with the Davis loader? Thanks, Rich

Hi Rich. The N-Newsletter archives has some manuals on Davis loaders and backhoes. You can check them out by clicking here. They are available for copying and mailing costs.

Hope this helps..... ..... Ed
