Greg,

As BG says, there can only be a couple reasons for your bearing to go south. Usually clearance or lubrication. If this was a main bearing, check your cranksaft and make sure all the mains were ground concentric with each other. Usually takes precision V blocks and a dial indicator, but I have used some hokey setups in a pinch. ;-)

Also check all oil galleys for obstructions. Did you use silicone sealant during assy? I have seen a glob come loose and plug a galley.

Also a question for N engine experts: Is there a crankshaft end play adjustment / spec for these engines?

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Arne

I recognized that page, went to my file and it is exactly the same as mine. My book is called Advanced Service Training Outline for 8N Ford Tractor. An elderly client of mine gave it to me, said he used to teach tractor repair and maintenance a long time ago, said he would not need it anymore. That was about 5 years ago and he died last year. I use it for my 9N and ask questions when the 8N differs from mine. BC Mike C

Hey Mike. Yep, it's from a dealer mechanic training manual.

Ed:

Did you ever consider leaving IT and becoming a reference librarian (that is should the axe murder business "die" out)

:^)

Hey Jerry. Hard to make a buck in the I.T. business these days. Fortunately, good axe murderers thrive during times of economic recession, therefore I literally could not afford to work as a librarian. I barely have time to keep the axe sharp!!
