My 8N has a new motor, good compression, good spark and runs good - once you get it started. Here's the problem. I have to be very careful when using the choke or fuel will re running out the bottom of the carb. Even when warm I hav to use the choke to get it stated. When the fuel runs out the carb (which I cant figure out why) I can take a spark plug out and it will not be wet?? It just plain starts too hard! The manifold is tight; the carb has been rebuilt (Denny,s), and it has good suck when I hold my hand where the carb bolts on. Can someone give me a direction to make this an easier started>

Thank You

I added the new style starter drive and mine starts better than ever... just keeping the starter engaged a weeee bit longer made a huge difference... My old one popped out every time I got a little fire...

I came after 2 major carb tear down to get it really clean....

Ron, I fought the same problem. I,ll bet that I had the carb off and every single piece apart and cleaned at least a dozen times. There were several problems with the carb and one by one I was able to fix them. It would have been easier to just get a new one but I am a glutton for punishment. The major contributer was a dirty tank!!!
I installed an inline filter to trap the crud but the fine particles of rust would soon stop it up. Then I tried two big filters and even an electric fuel pump to force feed them. The needle and seat would hold at first then the fine particles would build up on the seat and it would flood. I had cleaned the tank previous to this with stright muratic acid. Dropped in a 3' piece of 5/16" chain and shook it like a mad man. I thought that it was clean but the the above results proved me wrong.
I finally pulled the tank and used POR15's tank cleaning/sealing kit. I'am here to tell you that this is great stuff. (note) I am in no way affiliated with POR or anyone who sells their stuff. I had to do the cleaning and etching procedure twice in order to get all of the rust out of the tank. Then I pressurized it and found several pin holes along the bottom just under the tank fill area. These I welded shut with a wire welder then ground them down and checked for leaks. Cleaned the tank again, leak checked and dried it using a heat gun. Performed the sealing procedure and let it cure for 96 hours.
Put it back on with a new gas line, gravity feed. Now the bowl stays sparkling clean and the flooding is gone, It actually seems to run better. Starts on the first turn of the starter.
When it is cold I pull the choke out all the way and as soon as it hits I Let it spring back to the open position. If it is really cold I,ll pull the choke halfway till it smooths out. This only takes a couple seconds. I hope that you can resolve your problem without having to resort to extrems as I have had to do.

Good Luck,
Bill

Bout the only reason fuel will run out of the carb is if the float is not closing off the fuel inlet. Check float level and make sure the fuel inlet seat is tightened in and the fuel shut-off needle is not damaged.
