As Sam said in his post, "What a difference a few months makes". As usual over the past 10 or so years, I have decorated our windmill for Christmas. I run strings of what they call chasing or running lights around the outer portion of the blades on the fan and then around the blades about halfway in to the hub. The chasing lights make the fan appear to be rotating. I also run strings of lights down the legs and all the cross supports. It has gotten to the point where I get "angry" calls if I happen to be a little late. getting it done. This year it was a little tougher than usual because I was a little late due to the weather and the calls started coming. When I got out on the platform of my 30' mill the temp was 10 degrees with a 30 mph wind gusting to 50---cold and tricky.
This year I used my '50 8N and the front loader to get the lower portions done and she sure did make the job easier. That motorized ladder was just what I needed. And more importantly, Baby came thru in the sqeeze as usual. I'll have to admit that now that I'm 70 its harder to climb around on that mill than it used to be but my N sure minimized the effort. The phone should stop ringing now. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all you Nthusiasts from the high plains of Wyoming and may all your N dreams come true.

Norm;

What part of Wyoming are you located? I use to live in Big Piney, "just" south of Jackson and a "little" north of Kemmerer. I recall well the warm days of 10 degrees and that mild breeze. I couldn't wait for it to get cold. I kept a thermometer outside my Kitchen window and would check each morning. Usually around 10 to 20 in the morning. One morning I looked out and the needle was so far to the left, I couldn't see it. I did a double take and leaned real close to the window and it was thirty below. I immediately ran outside is shorts and t-shirt. (and shoes, not that crazy) and was disappointed. It didn't seem that cold. of course the wind was next to nothing. Up on the mounatin, it would blow forty and fifty.... That did get cold. I sure miss Wyoming. You have a beautiful state up there.

Bill
P.S. I have a daughter, who will be fifteen next month, she was born in Jackson while we were up there, so we ake her back about every five years so she can she were she was from.

Your note prompted some memories for me too. Nice country there...lived in Afton for a couple seasons and worked out of a backcounty cabin up in the Greys' River area. Used to bring the cattle down and into town, marked timber, and had some fun hunting spruce grouse and fishing brookies and browns' in those high country lakes. Quiet, nice place...people are great...beautiful country there... Would like to visit and rekindle some of those friendships sometime. Maybe a cross country trip on the 9N is in order in a couple years. Happy holidays.

We live just outside Laramie. Our place is at 7500' elev. I know what you mean about the temp. When the humidity is low it wom't feel any worse at 30-40 below than it does at 0. That's qualified on the wind not blowing, however as you well know. For your daughter, can't you make it more often than every five years??? :o)

Good idea. I'll try to borrow a digital camera tomorrow. Right now there is such a ground blizzard underway I can't see the mill from the house. Oh well, so go the whims of mother nature. Win some: lose some. But I'm sure glad I'm not up on that tower today.
