This should be easy, but my old brain cells are having a problem with it. I replaced the coil on my 52 8N (Sidemount dist.)
A Brandy new 6V. Now I know about plus ground. See my other posts on this. Heres where it get's murky for me. I wired the hot (-) ignition lead from the switch to the + or incoming side of the coil. Then I wired the ground (+) to the distributor, or ground side. My thinking was that the + mark on the coil denoted the incoming side, and the - refered to the grounded side. Should I have wired the incoming lead to the - side and the + to the distributor. I pondered what the coil manufacturer had in mind when he marked it. Did I get it backwards and am I losing spark because of it? Thanks , Rich

It's done, Now the coil markings correspond to the polarity of the machine. Plus to distributor and Neg to battery. Thanks for the tip. The more I thought about it, the confuseder I got. Reghards, Rich

Rich..... ....what Duner sez..... ..
As I understand your description of how you wired your new 6 volt sidemount roundcan igniton coil, yer backwards. Coil (+) to battery (+) which is ground thru the ignition points. You can be loosing 25-40% of yer sparkies with incorrect ignition coil polarity. Get it right..... ....Dell

With a positive ground system the plus side of coil goes to the dist. With a neg. gr. the minus side goes to dist.
