Rear Tire Valve Stem

My friend saw the rear tires on my 2N were a little low. He did me a favor an filled them with his new handy dandy jumper, compressor, thingy. Now I have calcium chloride dripping from the valve. I tried changing the valve. I unscrewed it the normal way and put in a new one. It still leaks. How does the stem work. It appears there is a housing over the stem that spins when I try to tighten the valve inside. I was afraid to turn it too much. Does anyone have an exploded view so I know what I'm doing as I break it. Thanks.

You have three parts to the valve. Inside part is the core that you have removed. The seat can get trash under it. You've cleaned it. Next is the part that screws into the tube fitting, itself. There is a small O ring sealing this second mentioned part to the tube. The O rings do get hard and will loose air/water. O ring available at FNH dealer or good implement tire dealer.

That's probably what it is the O ring. My only problem is there is water in the tire. I was thinking I should take the wheel off and lay it down with the stem up. Maybe now the water won't come out when I remove the valve. Thanks for the info Ray.

Richard, I have had the same happen to me. I rotated the wheel until the valve stem was top dead center. I then removed the valve stem cap. I have a 4-way tool to remove the insert inside of the stem. When the insert comes out, so will all of the air in the tube. With the 4-way tool, re-tap the inside of the valve stem. Clean the inside of the stem with soft small diameter brush. Replace the removed insert with a new piece. Worked for me. Philip.

Look at it real close. The stem on mine is two parts (or three depending on how you look at it). The valve which fits into a housing which is inturn screwed into the valve stem. You can remove the valve and housing with a pair of small pliers which leaves a big ole hole in the thingy sticking thru the rim.

Al, You lost me. Your saying the tube sticks out of the rim with a threaded end and no valve. The there is a housing that goes onto the tube and fits into a hole in the rim. Then the valve goes into the housing? Am I saying it right? In that case I should have no trouble changing the housing and valve for one that doesn't leak.

That is about it. Easy once you see it but hard to describe and a picture wouldn't show much without taking it apart. Put a pair of pliers on the upper part of the assy and see if it will un-screw. Mine will, can't swear to yours.
