Hey I know I have asked alot of really dumb questions but I really appreciate all the help I get from this board. I charged the battery and by the miracle of the great 8N it worked and started and ran for over an hour and a half and I finished grading around and cleaded out the crumb dirt from inside the pond that the dozer/loader couldn't pick up-all right before it satrted raining. I wonder if I got the coil hot-(jumping from 12 volt) thats why the longer it sat between jumps the longer it ran till it died.(see. we do use the archives to try and diagnose) I am buying a 6 volt charger TODAY and I will switch the cable to give positive ground on my 6 volt 8N(even though the cable looks identical and there is no flat woven cable on mine Dell)and I have made a mental and printed list of all the solutions that I have been given and I read the forum daily to learn about all kinds of stuff I will need next time somethings wrong-I promise to spell out the whole problem so you don't have to mind read anymore. Once again Thank you for the continued guidance that is priceless. Man I love this tractor!

If you do change the ground polarize the generator==check the archives for instructions, a one minute deal; and make sure the coil is hooked up correctly==lots of posts in the last couple of days on which post to hook to the distributor. If you skip these steps you will likely induce troubles where none exist at the moment.

Your mileage may vary

PhotoFarmer..... ....what bj/8n sez..... and.....
Flat woven braided ground cable is OEM. But you can use regular insulated cable too if you want to as long as its hairychested double aught (00) size of your thumb cable. Don't be fer usin' enny of them thar wimpy ferrin made 12 volt battery cables.

Remember the 6 volt mantra: "keep'em clean, bright, and tight".

Remember to re-polarize your generator/voltage regulator when you change to positive ground. It never hurts to correctly re-polarize as many times as you want to..... ...Dell

I was gonna use up some of the scrap pieces left over from a service we put it in a few months ago, but i couldnt find any battery terminal ends that would fit 600 mcm copper wire. ;)
