Won't start, recent 12V conversion

Just converted my 47 8N to 12V. Directions weren't the best, used the single wire alternator. The two red wires in the back I couldn't connect to the ammeter as the direction stated. So placed both on the original resistor.

It ran great, then after sitting there about a week, it's turned into a giant paper weight.
I can't get it to turn or anything, as if battery died(new battery).

What am I doing wrong?

thanks

Peter, I think you know what your problem is , but just don't know how to resolve it. Why can't you connect the two red wired to the ammeter? Is it because you have a loope type ammeter and not the terminal type. "IF" so, run one of the red wires thru the loop and connect and insulate the two red wires together. If you get an incorrect polarity amp reading, disconnect the wires and re-run the wire thru the loope in the opposite direction and reconnect an reinsulate. Sounds like what you did caused your tractor to run off the battery, but never allowed the battery to be charged, or caused a constant drain on the battery. Hope that helps, but if not get back with more information so we can guess more better.

Peter..... .....Congratulations, you have just created a 12 volt paper weight. (grin) Sorry, couldn't help myself. Because you didn't follow instructions, your new 12 volt battery is discharged.

You wrote: "The two red wires in the back I couldn't connect to the ammeter as the direction stated. So placed both on the original resistor", doesn't really mean a thing to me, You've really gotta 'splane more better, sorry..... ..respectfully, Dell
