Bought new ring gear installed it in the usual manner, after it cooled (over night), it was still loose. Took it to NH dealer where we bought the ring gear, they pressed the gear off and said they had never seen a fly wheel like it & they could not get it to work. The shop foreman & the mechanic that worked on it are both friends, good mechanics & restore tractors themselves. WE have done several ring gears before we have never seen a flywheel with a grove like this one????? HELP BURT>

If I understand you right, the ring gear is loose after installed? Try tack weld the gear. If too loose to tack weld, weld a small, short bead around the flywheel in several places and grind down to snug fit and tackweld gear. HTH

Looks like you will either have to find another fly wheel or weld the ring gear to the fly wheel in about four places and put it back together.

Did you heat the ring gear to a blug color and drop it on the flywheel or did you have to hammer it on. If it is heated right you don't have to hit it with a hammer at all. If it heated too hot it won't work either. Like red hot.
