Bought a 52 8N nearly forty years ago. Have used it on our place for just about everything a small tractor is supposed to do. Plowed with double ford plows, disked with five footer, mowed with a bushog five footer, dug post holes, pulled old posts, stretched fence, graded, pulled fertilizer wagon, sowed grass seed, scooped out drains and a small pond, pulled hay wagons. cultivated with 2 row cultivator, planted corn with 2 row planter, pulled manure spreader and dug potatoes.
She's been about the most reliable piece of equipment I've ever owned. Simple & rugged.
Had her engine overhauled a few years back. Other than that, have spent very little on her.
It's been a lot of fun also. Taught my son how to drive on it. Used hay bales about ten feet apart against a fence for parallel parking. Aced his driving test.
Use it for an annual hay ride in the fall.
Recently my son wanted to "restore" her. New tires & rims, original paint, all obvious worn or defective parts replaced. Had some good days and some not to good (rusted bolts, sand blast damage, etc.)But some good quality time with my son.
Now she's sitting in the barn, looking brand new with shining new paint.
I'll probably not use her again. Fraid I'll scratch the paint. Just use the old smelly diesel Massey 255 for whatever.
She now belongs to my son. I think the hardest work she will ever do now will to use a small finishing mower on his future aircraft runway and participate in parades.
By the way, her name is "Dandy".

Hi Pete,

Great tribute to your 8N and the portion of history you have given your son. Best regards. Rick H. Ga.
