What is the round plastic cap for on the valve stem. Looks like it goes outside the rim. Or it could go in the rim. Hate to get the tube installed wrong.

Fill the tube up without any weight on the tire, deflate and do it again. Gets any creases or pinches out of it supposidly. Bob in NY.

Is it threaded or not? Unthreaded one goes inside the rim, acts as a filler/buffer to prevent abrasion of the valve stem against the rim. If it is threaded, and the valve stem is threaded, it goes outside, helps to hold the tube in place during reassembly.

Rusty,

My dad's here right now, and he agrees that I have to caution you about one thing. Do NOT let the tractor even THINK of hearing you say you only want to do it once! It will find some way to make you take it off several times.

The rule of thumb on the Priday farm is that a rear tractor tire must be mounted and filled with water three times before it is safe to pronounce it fixed.

Good luck, and keep quiet around the tractor and you should be miles ahead...

Bill

Goes on the outside to keep the tube from getting back into the rim. After the tire is inflate it serves very little use. I guess it could be argued that it keeps some dirt out.

Thanks. This is turning into a big job. Don't want to install the tire more than once. If it will go on one time.

Clean the tire and rim, lubricate both with liquid soap and the tire will almost jump onto the rim. Seriously, if you have a couple tire irons and a good flat surface to work it is not all the job most folks make it out to be.
good luck,
ray

Fought that tire for several hours. Figured out the problem and it did jump right on. The job will be much easier next time.
