thanks for the response,, I hate to ask questions when I think I know the culprit,, but it doesn't hurt sometimes I guess, I had a cup of coffee, went out the snow accumulated another 4" and I hit it with some ether just to save the battery,, and vavoom, just like always, it started on the second revolution,I always wince when the girl stops running perfect, plowed for another hr or so, and never missed a beat,, must have been ice in the carb,, I hate patting the the old girl on the back cause that seems when murphy starts,, any way again thanks and merry christmas... another 4 hrs or so and I guess I will be back out,, the kids are loving the piles they are playing in, they keep saying make it bigger, but there is only so high the back blade will push it,, but they are happy and I am too now, pat

If you were flying an airplane, you'd have turned it into a glider through a classic case of of "Carb Icing". The gradual slowing, obvious rich mixture, eventual refusal to run, and description of snow and ice abounding are the telltale symptoms.

The ice forms inside the venturi of the carb due to the latent head of vaporization of the fuel. The tractor normally combats this with heat from the exhaust manifold, but the effectiveness is limited. This problem is worst when the temp is just below freezing and the humidity is high.

Go in the house, get a 3 gallon pail of hot water, pour it on the carb slowly. Try to get the whole carb warm without splashing any more water on your ignition system. Don't get too much water too quickly on the hot exhaust manifold.

The carb ice will melt and the resulting water will run out the bottom. I bet it will start and run.

Good luck and have a great holiday!

Well, I just use a paint stripper gun or a hair dryer as any water on an 9/2/8n is not good. Dont stand in the snow with an ungrounded hair dryer. Of course down here in the Virgin Islands we don't have that problem
Merry Christmas.

Just what "I" wanted to hear. Some guy in the Virgin Islands, laying on the beach while I am up to the kazoo in snow here in Ohio. Just kidding!
