I had a feeling something like this would happen. Thanks for doing the "field work" on this. Here's what I found over the weekend:

I thought I should look in my NAA/Hundred series parts book to see if they specified a serial number break on the running board change. What I found was that the flat boards specified for ALL 1955 tractors and angle boards for all others. It looks like maybe any '55 Hundred series with angle boards is an owner upgrade (?).

Here's another question for you. It looks like the radius rod caps on '55 tractors have the "L" shaped peg cast on it. This is used to mount the flat boards. My 850 with the angle boards also has the "L" peg. That's what first got me wondering about the originality of the running boards. Why use radius rod caps with foot board pegs that won't be used? Now my question: on your tractors with the angle boards, do they also have the "L" peg on the radius rod cap?

NO . The angle boards mount behind the radius rods & flat boards mount on the outside, this gives some steering problems, which can be corrected. BURT.
