I have the option of using a 1/2" impact wrench, 3/8" impact wrench, or hand powered socket. I have been spraying the nuts for a few days with silikroil.

Any advanage to using an impact over a hand tool?

Thanks.

Popster, Be very careful with an impact wrench on your manifold studs. They are pretty small to be using an impact wrench. If you do use an impact wrench I suggest you use it on the lowest setting. Sometimes the vibration that the impact wrench sets up will help break the bolt or nut loose; So easy to break the stud or bolt off with an impact wrench. Do be careful.

Use the hand sockets. The first move might be to tighten a little bit, then loosen. That should work, even though it looks rusted shut.

I would not use any air tools on an old tractor, excluding the wheel lugs, unless I had already removed the nut/bolt before. Breaking a stud or bolt off in one of these oldies will make a believer out of you, trust me !
