I've got a large Delco 12V 60 amp (Yup 60 amp)
Generator. I took off a 58 Chev truck many moons ago. It was using a 5/8 inch belt and pulley.
It's heavy. I've been thinking about mounting it on my 8N but it's a larger diameter than a normal generator of that period. Anybody got any suggestions?

Hey maybe you could drive an electric PTO!!!?!?

Actually, Rich, the thing I was wondering about if this is a large diameter frame alternator, you could have issues with clearance with the tie rod. Even with a smaller frame, I found it worthwhile to run a shorter belt to keep clearance on rough ground. Might be worth playing with to see if it would really fit before you commit.... just a thought, duey

could you email me the OEM number on the generator? should be 7 digits, starts like 1103xxx or 1113xxx or 1107xxx. It would take 3 horespower to run that, assuming it's 1/3 efficient, and I think i've been told it's worse than that on a generator. Good luck

I'm not going too get into the 6V versus 12V thing but I will make this suggestion.

Be careful about how you mount it. If you get a larger diameter than original (or mounted further out than original) you have to be careful about clearance with the right front steering linkage. If you drive such that the right side of the front axle is high and the tie rod and top link arm are in just the right place, you can run it into the generator. Depending where it hits it can do some nasty things.

Don't ask how I know. (You know it looked like a perfect fit sitting there in the shop)
