Don't want to detract from the main theme here, but....the inside door trim, handle and all are removed. It looks to me there's a couple of bolts holding the motor and assorted linkage. The question is, do I need to remove the motor/glass/linkage as a complete assembly, or what? Thanks for any help.

Oh, I had to walk around my 8N to get to my toolbox to begin work on the 'burban, so this is kind of related.

I can't speak specifically as for your Suburban, but most power window assemblies need to be removed from the door, and have the window slid off them as part of that removal. THere may be a "tilt track" on the door that one of the rollers rides in and that also will need to be removed to allow the window to tilt enough to slide off the roller(s) from the power motor assembly.
Once the assembly is out, then you change the motor on it, unless you buy a reman unit that has arms and all. WATCH OUT FOR THE SPRING!!!
A service manual for your truck should cover the procedure. Some cars have the regulator assembly attached to the door by special rivets. These will have to be chiselled off or drilled out, and replaced with rivets or nuts and bolts later. We used to weld nuts to the regulator and use bolts in the shop. Have fun!

Just went through this but never got to removing the motor on my 1988. If its cold, raining or snowing the window refuses to go up, I think its alive!! Just wanted to mention if you haven't already done so, check both switches first, the keyed one and the one on the dash, could save you a whole lot of time and money.

it ALL has to come out. My bost at Best Buy a few years back could get one out in 20 minutes. He was good. Good luck. Watch out for the spring that helps lift the window. when you pull off the dead motor the spring will 'spring into action' I still have the scar from 7 years ago involving a monte
