I got my 8N engine from the machine shop today. Had the crank polished, rods reconditioned, new sleeves, valve-seats, new valves, adjustable tappets, oil-pump rebuilt, new flywheel ring gear. Question... I installed the rings on my new pistons and was looking at the rods and noticed that on one of them it looks like the oil squirt hole on the top side of the end that connects to the crank was blocked. It looks like someone tried to drill the hole out and the drill bit broke off in the hole. The other 3 rods are fine but I am concerned about the one. How crucial is the oil squrt port? I plan on calling the machinest tomorrow and asking him about it. Thanks! Rick(Ga)

The squirt hole should face forward, to the fan.

You had the rods "reconditioned" and they did not notice that ! THAT would drive me up a wall and I would expect some refunds from them since they could not have reconditioned the rods and not noticed that. My $.02

The oil hole is to cool the piston skirt, and lube the cyl wall. It is very important.
