The head is off and number 3 and 4 cylinders are pretty carboned up. What is the best way to clean some of that carbon out with out wrecking things? Also, what is the best way to scrape that old head gasket off?

Dont know if it will help in your situation but when I did a overhaul once I put motor oil in a coffee can and set the piston in it overnite. This worked so well you wiped off the old carbon with a rag.
