I've got a 47 8n with the front mounted distributor. The tractor runs great but it will need some work in the future. That being the case, I would like to get a block and build another engine using new parts so I can swap out in the near future. My question is, will other 8n engines, such as the newer ones with the side mount distributor, bolt up to my bell housing? Or will I have to stay with a engine that has the front mount? I'm not worried about keeping everything original, this is a work tractor and I would like to go to a side mount if I can. Has anyone had any experence with this? Thanks.

Rusty, The blocks are the same except for the late side mount has bosses for the generator mount and the oil filler tube is moved back farther. You'll spend good money on a good block just to have for a swap out. Also, if you are planning on doing this, I think you would be better off buying a complete late engine with all the accesories. Buying parts to do this can be a chore. My feelings are you're money ahead to just rebuild the one you have. It won't take that long to do, and you would be back up and running in a short time. That is unless your old block is bad for some reason. Only my opinion. Best of Luck!!!

It should bolt up, however the various covers, etc. will all be different so you will need more than just a block.
