Once in for all I would like to come to a final decision on what year to call my 8N. The serial # *8N24342* shows in the book as manufactured in 1947. So do we call it a 1947 or 1948 model? The date stamped on the hydraulic lid under the tractor belly reads: 10-15-47. Do we go by Manf date or model date? Thanks in advance for any help.

Opinions are like belly buttons..everyone has one...grin...
Yes you can have a 47 8N (if you want)
Serial numbers 8N1 - 8N37907 were built in 1947.
I call them 47 8N's

Hi Dick-
It is a 1948. Parts manuals bear this out. A '47 is considered a 2N and even though production of the 8N began in June 1947, it is considered a 1948. The 8 in 8N signifies the year-1948. Welcome to the wonderful world of N's...

I agree! No such thing as a 1947 8N Ford tractor.

I was a parts manager at a Ford tractor dealership back in 59-67 and never saw one single reference to a "47 8N Ford tractor in any Ford tractor parts manual.

47 was a 2N and the next model designation was an 8N in "48. It's the numbers guys, the numbers!

"39 is 9N- "42 is 2N- "48 is 8N.
