I look in my FO-4, but did not see info. Will go back and re-read after I post this, but would like to put tractor back together before dark.

How does one determine if the centrifical advance unit in the front mount distributor 8N is working. I held the shaft still and tried to turn the rotor, but there seems to be no movement. (distributor is on kitchen table)

Many thanks for any help!

OK, I figured it out. I took off the top plate and found that the weight/cam assembly turned the lobe that the points ride upon.

Inspect the advance weight pins and slots they ride in on the plate. If either is worn, it may be advisable to replace, so that the pins ride smoothly in the slots.

Thanks bg.

I cleaned it out, inspected, and carefully and sparingly greased where needed with tetra grease.

I learned that the easy way to install the points was to pop out the retainer clip/spring, pull the plate, and then install the points on the plate. Easy access to all screws. I then installed plate into distributer after cleaning/lubing the shaft bearings and centrifical advance mechanism. Scraped/cleaned any gunk and corrosion in and out. I've replaced points condenser berore with plate left in distributor and this method is far easier. I'm happy with the outcome.
