I have to hold the throttle lever open by hand. The ratchet plate seems to be ok. I see that I am missing a spring at the bottom of the lever rod. According to the 8N Shop Manual it is: SPRING, Part# 8N9827. The spring attaches to (Lever, Part# 8N9807) and to a (Plate, Part# 8N9855). Can anyone tell me where the PLATE, Part# 8N9855 attaches? I cannot seem to fin it.
THANKS
Dick
PS: The Shop Manual is: I&T Shop Service FO-4, Illustrations are on page 110.

There's also a small ball bearing in the bulb end of the throttle arm that rides on the throttle plate. Unless it has been replaced, it's probably worn flat. If you pull the throttle off (not too bad a job), you can either turn it around so a round side is sticking out, or replace it. You will then have more pressure between the throttle arm and the plate.

Dick, I use a small rubber electrical grommet with one side cut down slightly on the nub of the throttle shaft to provide friction against the plate. Has worked well for me for years. Definetly holds throttle where you want it. Philip.

The 'ridges' on the throttle plate can and do wear...A while back there was a post about a guy that refurbed his plate by running beads of weld where the ridges used to be and then grinding them smooth...He had the same problem as you...Only time my plate will not hold the lever in position is when it is wet from either rain or snow...But I see having to refurb mine in the future...

plate p/n 8N9855 attaches to a clutch housing bolt inline with the block oil output fitting. I show what I'd call the spring bracket (plate) in my I&T FO-4 fig FO-58 that shows the 8N governor linkage along side the block and valve covers.

Are you certain that you have the throttle shaft endbracket p/n 8N9807 slipped up the throttle shaft enuff to compress spring p/n 8N9806? This spring provides tension to the throttle shaft arm on the notched dash throttle plate.

I ran for years without spring 8N9827 that connects between throttle shaft bracket 8N9807 and plate 8N9855. I recently installed spring 8N9827 and notice no difference in throttle operation..... .....Dell
