I have seen the cable operated front snow plows on a number of 8N's and think it is a pretty slick way of operating from the rear hydraulics. I have a '57 950 that I would like to adapt to this kind of an arrangement. Does anyone know if this is easily done or know of a manufacturer of a front snow plow for the 950 that does not require additional hydraulics or independent front lift?

I have a Snowbear plow mounted on the front of my 8N. You can get additional information from them at www.snowbear.com. Or phone them at 800-337-2327. They will even send you a video showing the plow being used also the installation of it. They have them at various stores, some of which are Lowes, Sams Club, TSC and Quality to name a few. If you call them, you can ask them for a location that is close to you. The plow does require a 12 volt system. Works great.

Hi, Mike. I, too, live in MI and have found out the hard way this year that a back blade just don't get it. While not as long as some of the guys on this board, my driveway is almost 400 ft. long and after the first big storm last week, it took me about 4 hours of plowing to get my truck out (big drifts). Anyway, can you tell me about how much the snowbear costs and how it good it works? Also, how involved was it to modify the mounting brackets to fit your tractor? Thanks for any info you can give me. MO

MO and JimWi
My father is out of town. I cannot tell you to much about it, but I know the blade cost $1000.00 and that it works good and that he said the front mounts were pretty easy to fabricate which consisted of a small piece of flat steel and 2 angle brackets. I know he had to drill the axel to bolt on the flat piece of steel and the first angle iron was 5 inches wide and that was welded on to the flat piece. Then the 2nd piece of angle iron layed on top of the lst piece and set out so it was square with the front of the tractor and then bolted or welded in place. This had to be done because of the angle of the axel. Then 2 support bars,(1 inch pipe or angle iron) from the back hitch to the flat support bar that holds the plow in front of the tractor. You will know where to support plow with these support bars. The flat piece of steel and 2 angle brackets are needed for each side of the tractor. I hope this helps. My father won't be back until after the new year.

I'm interested too. Given the number of N's out there I think they might do well to design a standard harness for an N (their site doesn't seem to list tractors -- they do mention customization though).

Thanks for the responses, but nobody answered my question. Will the 8N front plow / cable arrangement easily adapt to to my 950? Mine is still 6 volt and works great, so I don't want to adapt. Not to mention I can fix a generator, directed at you dolts who think the only answer is an alternator. HA! R.
