I've always subscribed to the 'don't fix it if it aint broke' idea. But I was searching through the archives to see how the board felt about re-torking head bolts and if so, then how often should it be done. Even on small B&S engines, I would feel like I was disturbing the ability of the gaskets to do thier job if I tampered with them. I've had my 'n' for 10 years and don't know if the head bolts have ever been re-torked. As a matter of fact, what about the other bolts as well? Ron

Normally, I wouldn't even ask about the head bolts, But I been reading so many posts about 're-torking' that I just got to thinking maybe I was missing something. Thanks for the heads-up..Ron

After 10 years if it's working, don't fix it. Re-torque is after a head removal and replacement. This is performed due to the high heat that the head experiences on a normal runnung basis. The head and gasket will fit and seat somewhat differently initially after the extremes tempersture.

SO, run the engine for about an hour after a head removal/replacement, then re-torque.

Joel
