Im new to this board so go easy on me. I recently purchased a 9N basket case. The rear and was under a shed roof outside and the front was in the weather. The engine was inside a heated garagewith head and pan off. It was in a dark corner. Anyhow when I got it home I found that the block had been fixed and rod journels are not good. I thought I would swap another engine into it. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated. Thanks

Andy, Just because a block shows signs of repair does not make it unserviceable. There are many old tractors running today doing meaningfull work with repaired blocks. Evaluate where the repair is, how it was made, and if it was a successfull repair. Crankshaft, as you probably know can be turned if not too bad. Look what you have over closely before trashing it.

The block I have has several freeze cracks that I found after grinding some of the putty away. Should I try some JB weld? Thats what an old tractor salvage man told me to try. Ihave used it on several other items with success, ButI dont know about a block. The machine shops are to expensive. Thanks for the replies Andy

Andy, your email bounced. Email me if you will. Jb weld will work on a block if it is done right.
