IF you were to breakone off even with the flywheel surface, weld a washer on firstTHEN a nut.It will bring it right out. If below the surface, center punch it exactly, use somenthing,(piece of tubing) in the hole to make it stay centered, drill all of the way through the flywheel with a real small drill bit, then, come through the back of the flywheel with a little bit larger bit. It should backout. I've done this.

Thanks Gary. Good tips. I'll try that next time. I guess I paniced and got excited and used too big a drill bit. Rick H. Ga.

Screw the bolt in the flywhell with out the "PRESSURE PLATE" and make sure it does not bottom out befor it would make contact with the pressure plate. I would won't a bolt with a sholder if it was mine.

5/16"-18 x .77" with special shoulder and lock washer. DonB has 'em.

Hi Roger,

A word of advice,

When I overhauled my 49 8N a couple of years ago, I thought I remembered that the torque of the pressure plate bolts was 35 ft. lb’s. I was incorrect and broke-off the bolt head on one of the bolts. Upon rechecking the torque spec., I found that the actual torque should have been about 20-25 ft lb and not 35. I had to drill and tap the hole and get the next size bigger bolt for that particular fastener. It pays to double-check the torque values and use new, high strength bolts. HTH. Rick H. Ga.

Don't remember the size but it is a sholderd bolt so the threaded area is not in the hole of the plate. Important to use the right bolts. Mark H.
