I know... but,,,,, I tried looking for a forum for toyotas, but they all wanted a sign in this that and the other,, so i know that many of us here know a lil about everything,, wait did I say that,, any way, does anyone know what size "bolt" I have to use on the rear drum to get the drum off the hub on a 1987 toyota 4x4 pickup.. {you cant just pry off or beat off like other vehicles, I know you have to tighten two bolts into the drum which pushes against the hub} changing tires on our farm\woods\beater\play truck and broke quite a few studs,,, thanks for any help, pat

Pat, they are metric as I am sure that you already know. I can't remember exactly what size mine are, but they are close to 1/4 inch which is in line with the previous post. They are available anywhere that sells metric replacement bolts. The ones I got for my 89 are about 3 inches long. To keep from bending them, tighten them until they are snug, then quarter turn after smacking the drum with a ball peen hammer on opposite sides with a couple of good whacks. Keep this up and you will see the drum start to move. You may have to back off the shoes to get it to come all the way off especially if they have worn a groove in the drum. Hope this helps ya.

Most use a 8mmx1.25. You have to use heat sometimes. Or if ya got a air chisel with a hammer bit it will knock it lose. They can be a pain. You could try and losen the lug bolts and wile it's on the ground shake the truck side to side. That may help to work it free. It's stuck to the center of the axle and if you use heat thats were you need to apply the heat. Don't strip out the bolt treads in the drum. When ya have good and tight hit the out side of the brake drum with a big hammer to help pop it loose. Don't be scard to hit it it will thak a good lick.Work around the drum with the hammer and it should come free.
