YEEE HAAA.....

Put new points, plugs, condenser, cap and rotor. Turned the key and started before one turn - about scared me:) Ran smooth and quiet.

The problem was the little copper strap that goes from the points to the screw that holds the condenser wire. Pulled the points out and the strip feel off. I made a new one out of the copper piece from the old points.

I sprang a oil leak from the oil line going to the gage - easy stuff. I did have 20 PSI oil pressure at idle. Fix the loose ends and I am off pulling stumps, spreading 10 loads of multch, grading the lawn..... . Let the fun begin!

Thanks for the help!

Phil,

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago while I was bush hogging. It took a long time to figure it out because it didn't separate enough to be able to tell it was broken. When I finally figured it out, I replaced the strap with a short jumper wire with two crimp-on ring terminals. I feel that the strap is a weak point because it's not able to flex, and is therefore prone to breakage. I hope my solution lasts longer.

Glad you were able to figure out your problem. Feels good when you do, huh?

Ron

Yea it feels good - real good:) Exactly the same as you Ron. Looking at the points as installed I could not tell it was broken. I like your solution and something to put on my list next time I have it apart.

Be careful pulling those stumps. Don't let the N flip over on you.

As a teenager I watched as a friend was trying to put a IH out with our MF. He tied too high and the MF started coming up and my friend bailed off the tractor and the MF flipped on top the IH smashing the hoods in. Scared the crap out of us! And fixing the tractors took the rest....

Thanks for the reminder!

Phil
