Just a side note to you all about the tool box location. The prototype tractor for the 9N, that is in Henry Ford Museum, had the tool box located on the left side of the engine, below the oil fill and just back of the axle. It is easy to see why it got moved for the production tractors.

A long time ago (can't remember when - my age you know) an enterprising sheetmetal guy was going to look into making some off of one he had. Anyone remember when that was or what happened to that idea??

A true 9n toolbox has a bracket that is rivited to tool box and is bolted to the ALUMINUM battery tray--- steering housing with two 7\16 bolts. The 2n ford toolbox looks just like the 9n but has no bracket, and bolts in the same place but bolts to a sheet metal battery tray with two 5\16 bolts. It is easy to get confused as most 9n toolboxs sold on e-bay are realy 2n toolboxs. Most people say 9n's and 2n's are exactly the same but this is one thing that is different. Hope this helps, Jason

According to a very reliable source.....when they went to the steel dash[about80770] they changed the tool box to the 2n style. So,we now know that the 2n box WAS used on some 9ns.We are still in the process of having both the 9n and 2n toolboxes reproduced.Just taking a little longer than expected. don

Bob, the tool box mounts to the left side of the battery tray like Jason said. But most people move them to the fender for easy access. And because they corrode and rust out from battery fluids. John

There is no braket. There are the two holes in the tool box and they go right onto the two studs that are used to hold the side of the battery tray. I have mine mounted on the fender. Most people do because it is much easier to get stuff in and out of.
