I had the question about how many volts should go to the coil from the resistor. A lot of people answered and now I have to ask if the 4+ volts to the coil is when the motor is turning over or when the key switch is on? when it is just sitting there we have 6 but when we turn it over it jumps considerally lower. Thanks again

Aaron..... .....a good OEM 6 volt frontmount ignition coil should read about 3.5 volts (4 max, 2.5 min) at the coil terminal with the points closed and battery volts with the points open. (engine off) to close the points, put the tractor in gear and push on the rear tire until points close. You can't get a good reading with the engine turning..... ....Dell

Thanks for the info dell, I think I am going to put a new wiring harness on it and start over because the resitor is showing 6 volts on each side. I dont know for sure if the wires are hooked up properly so I am going to do it. if anyone has additional info it would be appreciated thanks

I don't know if you need it or not, but here is a link to the wiring diagrams on nseries.com's page. If you are gonna rewire they might be helpful.

Aaron,

If the points are open you will get 6 volts on both sides of the resistor. If resistor is bad, no volts will go through. For the resistor to go bad, it will burn into. If your wiring is bad, then by all means replace it. If the wiring looks good, do some other checking before replacing.

My $.02 worth,
Danny
