I need to replace both valve chamber gaskets on my 50 8n and two of the nuts on the manifold are seized (have been soaking with no luck so far). Is there a better way like maybe remove the governor? Any help appreciated.

Are those brass nuts?? They should be... The fact that they are seized suggests they are not. If you could drill a hole in either side of the nut, then pop them off with a chisel (kinda like the starter ring gear removal scheme). Follow up by using a thread chaser to clean up the studs again. Get brass nuts and torque to 17lbs.

8nTN,

That is exactly what I did when I had to get into the valve guides to get them free - they were sticking so the valves stayed open. Disconnect the throttle linkage and take off the governor. Don't think I had to remove anything else - certianly not the manifold or carb.

Warrning! Be sure to get the linkage rods back on the right govenor arms. Don't ask!! :-)

Good luck with your repair.

Regards,
Larry
