The other day mt 8N quit running on me and when I tried to restart the ammeter showed a full negative needle when I turned the key on. I also noticed that the wires leading from the key switch were hot. I replaced the ignition switch thinking that was the problem. The tractor started and ran fine a couple of times, but now its giving me the full discharge indication again when I switch the key on.I am thinking the problem might be in the resistor block. Any one have any ideas on this???

This sounds like a classic stuck cutout relay in the voltage regulator. Disconnect the bat. lead from the vr and see if the short goes away. If it does, replacae the vr...

Without seeing it, it is hard to tell.

Start trouble shooting by working back from the load.. when you finally disconnec the shorted part, the ammeter will tell you... and then you repair / replace that part.
