Ok this has been asked befor.. But what year did the 8N come out. I think my motor has been changed. The cast # on the block k126 tells me its a 46 model. Did Ford make a 8N in 1946 ?

That tractor I mentioned a few days ago with the cracked block (trying to sell for $2500—right!) did not have the casting number on the starter hump like mine does. Was that a later innovation or what???

Hey 8N-
Although the first 8N's were produced in July, 1947, they are considerd a 1948 model as Mike C showed. What about the serial number on the block? It would verify the casting code too and as Dell said the blocks were changed out. For parts, look in a Master Parts Manual and go by your model, year, and serial number.

You do realize that ALL frontmount N-Engines from June 1939 to mid 1950 are directly interchangeable, don't you? First 8N's in June 1947. Late model sidemount 8N's are also interchangeable with early N's..... ...respectfully, Dell

My 2N has casting dates of July '47 on the axle trumpets and June '47 I believe on the block. Occassionally I find a smattering of red paint under the gray, but only on parts that were 2/9N specific like the brake pedals. Were the 2 and 8N's built side by side for a while in 1947?

Scott..... ....best guesses and empirical information alludeds that yes, 2N's & 8N's were built side-by-side for a while in 1947. Ford archives can neather confirm or deny that supposition. Or maybe the right question hasn't been asked to the right person..... ....Dell

Look around on the other castings and you will find date codes. Some are in a 5 18 47 format, others may be in a format such as E187. Post what you find and we'll help you determine what it is.
