Spent Friday putting brakes on the 2N. What a mess! So much oil had leaked into the hubs they were 1/4 full of muck - goooy muck. Lots of pressure washing and scrubbing - even the dog had grease on him. After cleaning the brake job was very easy. Painted everything back up and put it together in short order. I did the Zane (I think it was his idea) trick and used silicon/teflon tape so seal the axles. Wow, a tractor with brakes - nice!

Being a happy tractor with new brakes, she wanted to work. So, I pulled two stumps out of the yard. Very wet still and tore up the yard a bit. That is ok. Now I have a reason to get the box blade mounted.

My wife was great this weekend!! Lots of love'n and she let me buy a John Deere lawn mower. I bought the 17 Hp, 42 inch cut with 5 speed. Still not sure about the hydrostatic trans in little mowers. I like gears. Looked for a Ford, but they don't have small mowers. They sell Kubota and too pricy.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

I was at the New Holland dealer the other day and they had a new lawn mower, it was a V-2, belt drive. It cost around $10,000. Real neat looking but way overpriced. It was a 5 ft cut.

Yep Dell, you nailed it on the head. My wife loves to buy things at no interest/no payment for a year. We buy one thing at a time and always pay it off under a year. So, guess how I got the John Deere:) Now to find someone to sell me an 8N this way.....

I have a 1972 JD hydrostatic 4 speed ( 48 inch cut, 10 hp ) the engine and transmission have never been touched other than tune ups and oil changes . I bought new JD in 97 to give the old one a break , it got me spoiled with automatic trans. cruise control , tilt wheel, the 72 just sets there in the back of the barn and will spark to life at the turn of a key, My old dog is going to be 15 next month ( Bandit ) I must take pretty good care of my stuff to keep em going beyond there years.Think Ill pat myself on the back.
