What is the diameter and thread type of the front crank pulley bolt on a late 8N? Thanks very much.
Paul

Paul..... .the N's crownhead crankshaft pulley bolt is 5/8-18 X 1"L 1-5/16 Hexhead. Torque 150 ft/lbs.

HINT: stuff a bunch of soft 1/4" clothesline rope down any sparkie hole. The crankshaft will turn and push the piston against the rope up against the cylinderhead. Works eather way, install or remove..... ...Dell

Dell, Thanks for the information, but by listing the "L" after the thread size, are you saying it's a left hand thread? I was hoping to pick up a replacement from a hardware store on the way home. Thanks in advance.

Paul,

It's right-hand threads. I have mine off doing a rebuild right now and I just went and looked at it to confirm.

Nice Job on you're 8N site. And the warbirds site. Keep us informed of additions.

Thanks, Dave. I've been enjoying your rebuild pictures, too.

I finally decided that I needed to learn HTML last week. I found a good tutorial at htmlgoodies.com and started playing. The tractor site is both a place to share and a learning exercise.

I plan on adding a bunch to the Warbird section as soon as I find time, probably after this rebuild is done. I'm heavily involved as a volunteer and crew chief at LSFM and have accumulated alot of good pictures (and experiences) over the years.

Unless I've just got an odd bolt, mine takes a 1-3/8 wrench. You can getcha one (the wrench) at TSC for about $6.50.

Les..... ..1-3/8 is 1.375 last time I looked. I just miked my 52 8N's frontcrankshaft crownhead bolt at 1.310, 1.315, 1.325 and my 1-5/16 socket fits just fine, thankyou.

Yes, you can probably use a 1-3/8 6-point socket wrench just fine. 1-5/16 is not a common size that is why I mention it..... .....respectfully, Dell

And if you are replacing the bolt with "standard" 5/8-18 hardware the headsize will be 15/16".

I couldn't get a 1-5/16 to fit so got a 1-3/8 12 point box-end wrench which fits perfectly. It's a cheapo "China" wrench (about $6.50 from TSC) but it fits. The 1-1/4 socket hardly goes over the crown part; 1-5/16 does that nicely, but won't fit over the hex. I don't have a 2" mic but laying a scale on it looks like 1.375 across the flats.

Maybe something got changed somewhere along the way.
