Just a quick dumb question....

I got a 9n tractor without a battery - 6 volt system. I bought a new 6 volt battery and put it in. I connected the negative to ground. And it started the first couple of times - but the amp meter kept reading negative. Now the battery is dead after 2-3 starts. Are the 9N - 6 volt systems positively grounded. If anyone could help, that would be great. I have the battery in the spot if you wear sitting down on the seat - positive would be to the right-front, negitive to the left-rear. Thanks...

The battery doesn't care if it is positive or negative ground. The generator will have to polarized to whichever ground you use. The cutout probably is the culprit. If it malfunctions, it can let the battery discharge back through the generator.

Patrick, the 6 volt system is positive ground. That is why your ampmeter indicated discharge. I will a include a link to wiring diagram below. You will have to charge your batt. Hope this helps.

add:#5

Polorize the GEN "before" starting OR you will
toast your new cutout.

(It polorized the first time the cutout closed when you had it _ve ground and welded the Contacts)
