Plowing todays snow with 1962 SOS 4000 with front blade, lots of ice under snow, chain came off on inside. Don't know why. I think I will put 1/2 tracks on tomorrow. Why does that happen?

Thanks for responses. Looks like I caught a link on cement at corner of garage broke a cross link at the side wall.It was dark when I broke it. The reason I was suprised is these chains fit real well and have been on the tractor for 8 winters. I don't take them off because I only use it in winter. The good news is I heard the "jingle" and stopped before wrecking fender or valve stem (tires are loaded).

Do you put straps on the outside of your chains? That keeps tention on the chains and keeps them from creeping over the tire,Plus it sounds like they may be a little to long.

Sounds to me like your chains are alittle to long, properly length chains installed should not be able to get over the tires after they are fastened, also chain tighteners might help
