Bought a dearborn plow modle 10-156. Think it may be to big for the N. Plan to take one share off if it is. Looked through the arcives and did not see any info on the 10-156. Would someone with a plow book please look up the plow size for me? Thanks.

I refurbished a Dearborn 2-bottom last Winter. Used it last summer. By advice from a friend, I plowed slowly in 2nd gear and it was unbelievable how well it worked on my 49 TO-20. Experimenting on what depth angle (center point arm) to use will dictate how well the plow operates.

Once you've used this plow and put it away, Grease or oil the Shares/mouldboards. Don't let them rust up or they won't scour next time you go to use it. If a plow doesn't scour, it'll make a mess out of the field. You'll spend a lot of time discing the lumps out. Rich

I've been pulling a 10-156 2 bottom for about 50 years. Dell is right. That was/is a plowing fool. What was neat, I was 10 years old and could keep up with, and sometimes pass, a Farmall H pulling a 2-14 trailer plow. It could also go places that any other tractor would get stuck. Believe me, I always tested it limits. Many times mud up to the rear axle and have to dig out. In lighter soil I would try 3rd gear or use the Sherman and go for step up 1st.
Making your plow a single bottom will only lengthen the amount of time to do the job. OH! NOW I GET IT! MORE PLAY TIME!

Thanks for the information Dell. Don't know if I will plant anything but it will be fun plowing anyway.

Rusty , Try this, Plow it up, Disc it smoothe. Then Broadcast ,by hand, about two bushels to the acre of soy beans. When they get up nice and high. Plow them under. This akes green manure and will kill a lot of weeds. In the fall, Reseed with Rye or wheat, Next spring. put in corn or pumkins. Rich

With Dell's information, we know you can buy new shares and shins at NH dealer or at generic sources.
Forged shares for older plows are difficult or impossible to find. My advice, buy one set of new shares before you start plowing. Also buy an owners manual and check to see if your plow is set correctly to plow behind your Ford. You are lucky to find a plow with replaceable shares. Others may be more collectible, but this is one of the ones you should buy for acreage plowing. Mike-Iowa
