Started hearing some valve noise on the '47 2N, then lost a cylinder. Last fall, I did the bottom end; turned the crank, new bearings and seals, as she was a little loose, but since the prior owner had done the top a couple 3 years ago, and the compression was good, and she didn't smoke, I left the top alone. Well I isolated it to #2, compression was only 30, with an occasional jump to about 118(this made sense as the cylinder would occasionally fire). So I dove in; and she does need a valve job, but I was disturbed when I found the oil filter bone dry, and after the engine oil had been drained, another 2-3qts came out of the top end when I rolled her over on the stand. Now obviously there was a blockage somewhere, but the new bearings and the crank all still look new, so she musta been oiling them. Anyone ever seen this before? Well the block will be tanked after the seats are ground, so hopefully I'll have clear oil passages again. I'll ask the other question in another post as it is Sherman related. Thanks, Pete
