I just acquired ownership of a pretty nice 85 Ford Ranger w/4-wheel drive that is in need of some front end work. Namely replacing the rt. front universal joint. The one that was there is completely missing, but it appears that all other parts are there just from looking underneath. Does anyone know of a good site to get some information similar to what is available here for the "N"? I've ordered a Chilton's from the library and am presently waiting for it to come in, but sometimes books either are un-necessarily 'wordy' or don't give enough information in common understandable terms. I checked the archives, but nothing was there for Ford Ranger 4-wheel drive. Thanks in advance.Ron

Try one of these:

Seems to be mostly young guys into hot rodding, but some experience on the sites. BTW, I have a '90 Ranger 4WD.
Good luck, Eye owa

I have a '91 Ranger 4WD and I recall they told me that to replace the front U-Joints you must buy the whole axle shaft. I think they were about $60 for each side. Mine were servicable so I did not have to replace.

The AutoZone store here (Columbus, OH) has a good manual, was maybe $15. I forget who publishes it, it covers Bronco 2's, Rangers, and Explorers. They all had the same basic drivetrains.

Anything else you want to know? I had my whole truck apart, put in a 4" lift kit a year or two ago. Replaced all the bushings, springs, everything I could.

Email me if you have questions.
