there's a lever right below the seat, in front of the rear axle housing. what in the world is this for? also by the gear shift there's a switch that looks like a light dimmer switch is this what it is? after you get through laughing at me please feel free to answer my question before i hit the ejection button and fling myself into the front yard. thanks. be safe. rick(the 8N neophyte)craig

James you got it all wrong, the lil lever pops the lid so you can top off your headlight fluid when its low.

The little lever under the seat, position it so it's pointing up, and unless you are doing a lot of plowing, forget about it. The dimmer switch looking thing, is the starter buton. As Dave has said, for safety reasons, it's supposed to be so that you can only start the tractor in neutral.

Happy 'N'ing,

JA

Rick, On a 8N that little lever is the Draft, position controll lever. The 9N and 2N does not have it.
The button that looks like a old fashoned dimmer switch is the starter button that is connected to a safety interlock in the transmission. It's purpose is to stop the tractor from starting in gear. If it has been bypassed, get it fixed. That is a important safety feature.

Pretty much the ONLY safety feature. Must have been fewer lawyers in that era.

The lever under the seat is for draft control or something or another. Mine don't work so I am not sure.

The button next to the shifter is suppose to be the push button start.
