Just checked the ones I have - musta been drinkin when I checked them in - fit like a glove. Looks like the ID of the seal is somwhere between 11/16 and 3/4. The taper on the stud appears to be 3/4 at the larger diameter and my seals seat quite nicely right at the top of the stud. If someone could explain how to link multiple images into a message on this site I'll post some pics. Can you just put the HTML link in the message? Just got a digi camera!

Bob, I think the correct way to install the seals is to use a press. I had the same problem A couple of months ago didn't have a press then. I used a dremel tool to turn down the inside of the metal cup on the seal.I then put 2 washers on the back side of steering arm, then used the nut to to pull the cup on to the drag link.

BOB..... ...if I understand your description correctly, you are talking about the 9N-3324 seal on the ballstud of the draglink between the steering gearbox arm and the front spindle arm.

And if I remember correctly, you were concerned because you couldn't seem to get the tight new seal to fit over the ballstud threads. Something about differences in size between the ballstud and the hole in the seal that the ballstud goes thru. And that you didn't think the skirt of the seal would fit over the ballstud eather.

And if I remember correctly, I suggested that you soften up your new neoprine rubber seal by boiling it in water for a few minutes and installing it hot. Wear leather gloves. I'm not certain why you find this advice to be a problem..... .....respectfully, Dell

Sometimes we're all verbally challenged. I was having major problems visualizing BOB's description of his seal. Dan's pictures make sense. Thanks Dan.

As to why BOB was having problems installing his seals, it would appear the metal washers could be "hogged" out with reamers to fit the draglink balljoint stud. As to why his balljoint stud is "too big", beats me, haven't gotta clue..... ...Dell

I think the problem is the hole in the seal that fits over the stud is actually a metal grommet so boiling it won't help. I just purchased a set from Don B and noticed they were a little undersize. Haven't tried to actually install them yet - just assumed they were a bit of an interference fit and could be driven on with a suitable tool. I think the original question said he went that route and munged both seals. I'm working from home today so I'll measure the ones I got soon as I get my morning caffeine and check my e-mail (and oh yes finishing checking this list ;-)
