In the prior post about fatal tractor accidents, and the one about pushing stumps with a scraper blade, I wonder is it wise to try and pull a stump out by running a rope or chain underneath the tractor from the rear to the front and pulling in reverse? I learned the hard way about rear wheels going and the whole tractor front end lifting straight up and me killing the motor and jumping off. No damage to me or the 8n, thank god! Or can the be pushed over with a blade?

Rich T. In addition to what you just reminded yourself of, also consider that most tractor tires do not have very good traction in reverse. They are made to have the best traction going forward. Think about what you are going to do with the tractor and think about what the consequences could be, before you start. Good Luck. Ron

Rick, Don't do that! You should pull with the draw bar as low to the ground as possible in foward gear, this put the weight on the front wheels, not lifting them as in the situation you discribed.

I read this post this morning and I immediately said no You cannot lift the front end when going in reverse.. I have been working with my backhoe all day and could not get it out of my mind.. There is absolutely no way that you can lift the Front wheels when you are in reverse gear...What do you do if the wheels on a tractor are Frozen to the ground in the winter....Never try to drive Forward. You can flip right over backwards real Quick.. however you can use all the power you want in reverse..
