first of all i want to thank every one who replied to last post.received a lot of helpfull info.still no start though.pulled head and front cover last night.pulled fiber gear off and laid it on top of the original cam gear and the timeing mark was 1 tooth off.so,is cam off or crank or both? since i have never installed eigther, lets say i am i am just now going to install the cam. where would num 1 piston and valves be positoned as well as num 4 piston and valves? do i go by the mark on the crank or would i be further ahead to pretend ther are no marks and line it all up by piston and valve relation to each other? if doing this, where should the rotor cap be pointing when 1&4 piston are where they should be? i just figure if i start from the very beging i will have a better idea of what i have and more experiance to fully understand what i am looking at,with everyones help,of course.so whatever help any one can give me would be greatly appreciated.would be great if i had her running tomorrow. we both will be 55years young and its enough to know we have made it this far and looking foreward to the next 54 years or so,even if we do have a few rough edges.sorry for the long post and i hope i made it all clear enough to receive your help.put in 14 hrs at work yesterday and 6 on tractor last night. if any questions i will answer. thanks in advance

Use the valve overlap tip. You will see that as # 1 starts down the intake valve will open as soon as it starts down. It will be closed as soon as the piston reaches the bottom. The exhaust valve will start to open on the exhaust stroke as soon as the piston starts up. and be closed when it reaches TDC. At no time will a valve be open when a piston is at TDC. And at no time will a valve be open when a piston is at the bottom of its stroke. You have my number feel free to call. PS I don't think being One tooth off would cause a no start
