Can anyone tell me where the original lite wires were run and where it connects to the terminal block. There's a resistor on the top of the terminal bloke, is it for lites or what? It looks original and all 6V still. One side is connected to the power terminal and the other to nothing.

I can forward a drawing if you like. The center post of the terminal block is "hot" and that's where the power is derived to service the light switch. Purchase a switch with a built-in fuse (available in two positions if you chose to have a work-light.

Do not connect the power source to the top positions as this is the ballast resisitor that only is involved in the ignition circuit.

The wire (only one, as the ground is through the sheetmetal and frame of the tractor) originally was held in place down the hood on the side with clips that fastened to the sheetmetal. Twelve guage wire must be used. The wire passed between the radiator and grille to connect the two lights together.

Is this a side mount or front mount distributor? If a side mount you won't have the resistor as the resistor is "built-into" the coil which is of the tubular type and not the square type used on the 9/2 & earlier 8's.

Since you have a terminal block (with the resisitor) someone prior to your ownership must have just used what was available as a replacement part if you have the side-mount distributor...

Need more data.

Contact me at my address as I don't check the "tractor pages" that often.

Regards.

Headlight wiring is pretty straight forward, as I understand it. One side goes to the hot side of the battery, one side is ground and there is a toggle switch in between. Headlights were an option on the 8N's (to the best of my knowledge) so I believe the wiring route would follow the main loom. But don't take my word for it totally...my 8n is in the field right now and wont start for anything!
