I have a front mount dist. The resistor on the terminal block is connected to the "hot" terminal on the inboard side, not connected to anything on the out board side, should the switch to coil wire pass through this resistor? My switch to coil wire goes striaght to the coil.

Go to the link below. It clearly shows the resistor. If you are running the tractor without the resistor in series with the ignition coil, You will burn up the coil.

I have the Operators and FO-4 and niether show this part of the wiring(resistor/headlites). This answers alot. Why do you think the inboard side of the resistor is connected to the power terminal, that ain't right is it. Mabye the shade tree strikes again?

If it's truly 6v... it should pass through the ballast resistor. Is this a new tractor for you?? Curious who wired it in bypass mode...

There are wiring diagrams available at several N sites.

Ciao

Yes the tractor is new to me, Yes it is 6V,Yes the wiring has been mess with,I have the operator's manual, but the diagram there does not show the resistor,Slould I run the wire marked coil on the switch to the outboard side of the resistor insead of straight to the coil, I left it the way it was because that part of the harness seamed original, but alot of time has past since 48.
