The internet amazes me. Through the keyboard this kind of commerce has happened during my most recent tractor purchase:

Purchased a really nice and affordable 59 871 SOS with Power steering and a nice Woods bushog on e-bay. Typed in the bid, won the tractor, e-mailed the seller, and wired money to him. Tractor is in Sioux City, Iowa. What to do what to do?

Went to the YTMag Photo Ads site and purchased a 2-way Ford 703 Front End Loader for it. E-mailed the fella, got his phone called him, and closed the deal 20 minutes later. Front end loader is in Robins, Iowa on the east side of Iowa. What to do what to do. I'm in New Hampshire

Needed some weights for the tractor and loader. Saw a nice set of complete pie weights on e-bay. Typed in my bid, waited, acquired them for a fair price. They were located in Lynnvile, Iowa.

Now I have tractor on the west side of Iowa, wheel weights in mid Iowa, and a loader in eastern, Iowa. I'm still in New Hampshire. What to do, what to do.

Neeeded to haul the tractor from Siox City to Robbins. Placed an ad on the YT site Monday AM at 7:00. By 9:00 three bids to haul, and one fella in Ohio, going to a wedding in Nebraskea that week, said he would take his trailer, pick up the tractor on Sunday and when heading back east drop it off in Robins on Monday. Done deal through e-mail.

Called the Front end loader seller in Robins who was looking for bushohg. We agreed he would install the loader, put the power steering pump belt on the tractor, and drive to Lynnville, pickup the wieghts and install them all in exchange for the mower. Done deal.

Now, the fella who bought my Elenco 841 is picking up the tractor with loader and weights on the 1st and delivering to my door and picking up the 841 4Wd and hauling it to Texas.

But coincidentally a fella in New Hampshire who bought a rear blade from the front end loader seller in Robins needed to haul his blade to NH. So, I'm hauling his blade all on the same load to NH for him.. All done through the internet.

But the best part? All of the men involved in this whole coordination effort have all been just the most trustworthy, sincere and helpful people to meet. There is something about this tractor world and the nice people in it that gives me confidence to do all of this with minimal risk, and all through this keyboard.

Interesting story. Congratulations on the purchases. The internet is a wonder!

As for good people... I know there are terrific folks all over this great land of ours, as witnessed on this forum. But, I have to admit (a biased opinion of course) that Iowa seems to have at least our share of good folks. It's a well kept secret of good-ole midwestern culture (agri-culture mostly), pride, work ethic and hospitality. I grew up moving around the country with my family, but chose to raise my kids here in Iowa. Too bad you couldn't come out and pick up your new tractors and meet some of these good people. Thanks again for the story.

It has been my experience that fellas who understand the lingo of other fellow tractor people are perhaps the most trustworthy guys to deal with. Most of them have already been stuck in their past with: Salesmen who just want to take adventage of the OPPORTUNITY of a person stuck! Most of those type of personalities lost their family farms, and, most importantly, are afraid of losing the last of their assets thru other fellas like themselves.

Tractor people are generally proud of what the tractor stands for. Maybe even an AMERICAN SYMBOL.

Have a good time, SIR.
