Guys, Started working on the '50 8N we got this winter, rewired, and did a tune up, found the inside of the distributer cap chewed up some, and when I put the new rotor on the end of the distributer shaft, it is very very sloppy, (old one is too), what would cause this? It is metal to plastic, doesn't seem that the metal would wear. Obviously this has been going on before, as the rotor has obviously contacted the cap at some poit. Thanks, Pete

The rotor is supposed to have a spring steel clip that goes under the rotor and over the end of the shaft. Probably got pulled off and lost. Very easy to do.I know from experience.

I would suspect that the wobble is the shaft, not the rotor. If so, get a distributor repair kit. It is an easy fix.

Stormer, Yes, i have one...this weekends project, still can't figure why the end of the shaft would be worn and be so small where the rotor fits over...it actually flips over sideways, I shimmed it 'till this weekend. Thanks, Pete
